Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan is a premium electric sedan and the first electric vehicle from the stable. Since the start of this line, the car has been one of the preferred vehicles for many people, whether electric or gas. The users have been satisfied with the ability of the car to function well as a daily driver and yet give performances like a supercar with only the press of a button. When it comes to the overall range, the estimates show that the car can go a couple of hundred miles. The trim with the larger battery can go to nearly two hundred and thirty miles. But in the real-world scenarios, the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models managed to go a lot further. For the present line-up, the brand is increasing the appeal of the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models even more. These models are slotted between the Turbo and the 4S models in terms of the cost. The model has special rear and front styling. It gives turbo-like power and other updates oriented towards performance as standard equipment. The other prominent news is that Android Auto is coming to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models this year.

It needs plugging in via the USB port and does not support a wireless connection, which the Apple CarPlay does. But the owners of either type of smartphone will now have an integrated experience. The car has an increasing number of opponents in this segment. Its closest rival is the recently upgraded Tesla Model S. The car defeats the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models regarding the broad range and straight-line performance. But many people would like to drive and live the latter as a daily driver. There is also the newly released Taycan Cross Tourismo wagon. But that model has not been reviewed here. All of these cars are well worth your time. But none of them come close to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models regarding the driving pleasure you get from this car.

Overview

You may think that station wagons are not cool. But the great acceleration you derive from the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models will make you change your mind. You can also take a ride in the Tesla Model S and get the same kind of feeling. But Teslas as considered to be cool, while wagons are not. The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models are the long roof alternatives to the usual Taycan sedan. These models get an advanced electrical architecture and a dual-speed transmission that helps to give a lot of acceleration. While the electric vehicle recipe leaves out some main ingredients, such as one-pedal driving, and cannot match the range of the Tesla, these cars are a lot more satisfying to drive around. This wagon has a bigger trunk and back seat than the sedan, and the practicality might make you forget about the higher cost. The cars are useful tools and good methods to make people think again about their hatred for wagons.

Interior

There have been some hints of the sports car history of the brand inside its electric sedan. This includes a start button that is situated on the left side of the steering wheel. But there are also a lot of the latest high-tech elements. This includes a digital gauge cluster. The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models have a complete roster of premium amenities and a great list of choices for personalization. As with the Taycan sedan, the wagon gives a usual four-seat configuration or an optional choice of one more seat. The latter gives a small center seat in the back row. The car also has a higher roofline and a standard panoramic sunroof. So, the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models give a little more headroom in the front and a lot more in the rear seats than in the sedan. In addition to the useful interior cubby storage and front trunk of the line-up, the wagon gives more rear space than the sedan.

Tech Features

The optional Bose audio system gives great clarity and punchy sound. This is even when the volumes are cranked up to a high level. The navigation system is quite simple to learn on the fly and can give many map views within the gauge cluster even when the Apple CarPlay is active. The CarPlay comes by default in the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models. In the latest line-up, Android Auto has also joined the listing. The car also has several USB charging ports and wireless charging. The test car did not have several usual driving aids, including adaptive cruise control. The ones that were present were a little overbearing. The surround-view camera did not function properly in the beginning. But when it did, it worked very well with the parking assist sensors. The reverse camera picture gives the feeling of a fish-eye lens. The user gets to see a lot of what is right behind them. But the distorted image makes it quite difficult to find the distance between the car and things.

Driving

We were expecting a lot from the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models. In the usual fashion of the brand, it delivers a lot more than asked. It was predicted that the car would be fast, and it is. The car goes to sixty miles per hour in just over three-and-a-half seconds. The weight of the car is over five thousand pounds. The car is solid when it comes to driving around corners also. A lot of ease and effortless balance is usually found in a rear-wheel-drive sports car. But it also has great traction and thrust when exiting corners. It feels like you are cheating on the roads. The brakes also feel and perform very well. They give a lot of stopping power. No artificialness regarding braking is found in hybrids and electric vehicles right now. The line-up also does casual cruising very well. The only exception is the absence of automatic regenerative braking. Several electric vehicles regenerate when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator, so they do not need to touch the brake pedal at all. But that is not the case with the Taycan.

Comfort

The seating of the car is very comfortable but does not envelope you. But the sports seats give the lateral support required for dynamic driving. But you can drive in the car for nearly ten hours a day without feeling completely drained, which means a lot. The rear seats are not very good and have prominent lumbar support, an elevated floor height, and a narrow-toe room. But the ride comfort is very impressive. The Taycan weighs a lot and still handles very well. So, you can say that the drive is very well composed. It has been complemented by a very silent cabin. It is not just the complete absence of any engine noise that is good. But the insulation of the car from outside noise is also very good. The biggest miss here is that the climate control system is a little complicated. This is more so in the virtual vent controls. There is a little lag of time when the vent position is adjusted. This is a distraction when you are on the move. The issue is even more noticeable because the air conditioning system is very effective in automatic mode.

Maintenance

Many of the electric vehicles present in the market today are not low in cost. But the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models take costly to another level. Even the base models start a lot above the performance models of Teslas. But any person who gets the car will not have to think about any erroneous firmware upgrades and bad build quality. The car also has great interiors and the tactile feeling of buttons and switches. One of the few brands has not completely switched to touch screen menus.

Conclusion

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo models show the foray of the brand into the space of electric vehicles. You will not be disappointed in any way with the car. The line-up is a tech masterpiece that manages to give effortless driving and great comfort. With the twist of a knob, you can turn it into a world-beating car. It is a little baffling how the car manages to do so well together. But all the capability and tech come at a high cost. Also, the touchscreen technology is a little complex.
